Neighborhood Essay

Mandeville Canyon has lots of Christmas lights and great views from the top. I live in Mandeville Canyon and I have a really big backyard. These things are important to the canyon because it is big and fun.
First, during Christmastime, lights are put up down the main road and on all the trees. Some houses have reindeer and snowman lights and some have lights shaped like Christmas trees. One house looks like it has a forest of blue and white lights. I always look forward to seeing the lights on trees, gates, bushes, and houses.
Next, the view from our house is so pretty in the morning and at night. The sunrise coming over the hills and the moon rising in the night sky. At night I can see the city lights and all the cars driving on Sunset. After the rain, the sky is full of puffy, white clouds and I can see Catalina and sail boats in the ocean. I can also see little horses trotting around rings below my house.
Lastly, my back yard is so fun to play in. We have a trampoline, a pool, and lots of hiding places to play zombie tag. Our trampoline was just dug into the ground and is super bouncy. My favorite thing to do on the trampoline is front flips. On hot days my pool is so cold so my siblings and I have contests for whoever can jump in first. At nighttime on weekends some of my friends come over and we play zombie tag. We dress in all black and play for hours.
In conclusion, my neighborhood is full of fun things to do and great views and lights. It is the best neighborhood ever.

Alleluia Essay

Last summer is when I overcame one of the hardest things in my life. My dad was diagnosed with lymphoma, a form of cancer. My siblings and I were all really sad, then my parents told us that he was having surgery that week. He needed a port in his shoulder so the saline could be put in him without having a shot every time he needed it. During this time, my friend's friend died from cancer so I was scared my dad was going to die. My mom told me he was going to be fine and sure enough she was right. On my sister's birthday, my dad found out that he didn't have cancer anymore. I was very happy because I didn't think he was going to make it, but since he did I had overcome the fear that he wouldn't.

Short story

"Today is a nice, cool, 75 degrees here at Disneyland. Yup, you all know it... It's winter," announced the speaker at the entrance to Disneyland.
"I hope you have a wonderful time at the park," it continued, "Let's have some fun!" The whole entrance was covered in fake snow and Christmas decorations. Johnny and I walked through the entrance. We saw a train chugging past, the top of the Matterhorn, the castle that makes all the magic happen.
"Bella!" Johnny said excitedly,"This way to get to the rides!" We ran through a tunnel with pictures of Disney movies like Cinderella and Toy Story. We also saw pictures of Disney characters like Mickey, Mini, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and Pluto. To me, they all looked a bit creepy.
"Johnny, did you notice anything weird about those pictures?" I asked.
"No. Do they look funny?" He answered.
"Oh no reason," I said. I didn't pay much attention to that though because I was at Disneyland!

Johnny is my cousin. We are both 12 years old and have blonde hair and blue eyes. He is taller than me though. He is five feet and three inches and I'm only four feet and eleven inches. We have grown up together ever since Johnny's mom, my aunt, died when we were three. He stayed with us because no one else in our family took him in. They either had enough children to look after, didn't need a distraction to their job, and he is autistic so they didn't want him. I never really got to know him so my mom wanted us to come to Disneyland to bond. I really didn't want to go with him because if I'm gone for 20 seconds he'll be gone or he will have broken something. I guess today might not be as bad as I thought it would be.

We were walking around going to Space Mountain when I saw a man in a Mickey Mouse costume. He had an evil look on his face like he was about to attack me. I kept walking until I saw every Disney character and they all had that same evil look. I kept wondering if Johnny noticed, but I don't think he did.
An hour later we were going through Cinderella's castle and I saw Goofy. He was holding something, but I couldn't tell what it was. Johnny and I walked past him silently when YANK! He grabbed our shirts, pulled out a knife, and and tried to kill us!
"Run!" I screamed to Johnny. He obeyed and pulled his shirt away and started run as I did the same. We ran as fast as we could as far as we could until we were out of breath.

Later that night, when we were going to bed in our hotel room, I kept wondering what had happened that day and why it happened. I kept trying to tell myself it was just an act, but it was so sudden it didn't seem fake. I decided to let the topic rest while I hit the hay.

In the middle of the night, Johnny woke up screaming at the top of his lungs and saying "Run! Run!"
"What's the matter? What happened?" I said to him urgently.
"I had a scary dream that Micky Mouse was chasing me and hitting me," he explained.

I woke up the next morning and Johnny and I had a nice calm breakfast. We went to go on some rides and we saw them. All of them. Every Disney character was standing in front of us, their faces still as stone. They were holding spears and staring at us.
"Bella, they look mad at us," Johnny said.
I didn't pay attention to him. We could fight them. At least I thought we could when suddenly, they came closer and cornered us. They all threw their spears. It struck me. Johnny screamed! Then I saw light.

Window Poem

Out of the window of my room
I see my neighbor's yellow house
Their big dog runs playfully in their grassy yard
If I look hard enough I see their tv playing
Gracie Gold's blue, sparkly outfit skating on the ice in Sochi

The basketball hoop in our driveway
sitting, waiting for someone to shoot a basket

At night I look far into the city
The car lights flashing
The building lights still on to finish a day of work
I can see my reflection in the window

I see the pink chimney
Sticking out of the red brick roof

Your class might get blocks or some toys from Arty's

Now it's Kindergarten
Your in the Friendship Play
You won't stay at school but you practice all day
You have new uniforms
But your still not sleepin' in dorms

First Grade
You get played
No nap time it's sad
Don't worry it's not bad
Your now a community helper
Chef, Designer, Doctor
I hope your not a yelper

Fourth Grade

First year for the talent show
You can get on stage
and sing with a girl named Paige

Sixth grade's kinda fun
But your still not done
You got English with Diggs
On Catalina there's a story about pigs
You have science with Cow
He's a teacher but I don't know how
You might hear the words "Sign the log right now!"

Seventh Sequoia
It's as fun as La Hoya
You can be in electives
but there are more objectives
You dance with Bravo
And third grade buddies say Jambo

Eighth Grade your gone
It's graduation day dawn
Girls in their dresses and boys in their suits
The song you walk in at plays some flutes
Goodbye to my SMPS friend
See you at the other end
